The master brewers of the Rhineland have known for centuries that beer must not be transported over the mountains. But how then do we, here in the Basque Country, get the opportunity to try a delicious highly-fermented “Kólsch” or a flavorful “Alt” without being in Cologne or Düsseldorf? Absolutely impossible...unless of course one makes their own. This is precisely what Cologne native and adopted Basque, Joachim Fesser, decided to do. A creative miracle, it combines aromatic hops from Hallertau, spicy malt from Franconia, highly fermented yeast from Bavaria with fresh Basque spring water. Only the best ingredients are good enough to achieve the quality demanded by this family owned craft brewery where all of the beers are elaborated following the purest criteria of their Bavarian origins. The ZAMPANO Brewery is run by Joachim Fesser, a German lover of the Basque Country, who lives in Getaria and makes his own craft beer in Aizarnazabal (Gipuzkoa).
During our visit we will offer you an explanation of the brewing, bottling and labeling process, and after this, you will be able to enjoy a tasting of the three types of beer with something to snack on.
